bug, bug, bug

I am now back to work on chapter two. I actually have half the book finished, but there was one little detail that kept bugging me. You know how something nags at the back of your mind, but you aren’t sure what it is?

Yeah, that kind of bugging.

I think I’ve got it now, however. I just have to get Grandpa to do this and that, and have to get Dwayne to move this over there…and …..

Taking a new path

I’m taking a new path. Possibly you’ve figured that out due to the title line. You’re a smart cookie for sure! =)

This weekend, after a frustrating two weeks of plotting, re-plotting, dreaming, nightmares etc., I’ll finally be getting back to work on my MG.

The lost has been found.

I’m feeling much more confident with it now that I’m clearer on my main character (and his trusty sidekicks) and am seriously looking forward to diving back in.

Look out world, here I come.

Wrong Way!

So, I think I’ve taken a mis-step in my ms.

I’m zooming along, writing, actually giggling as I write.

And suddenly, I’m not. I’m (gasp) working. And I don’t like it.

So, I stewed on it. Ate a few cookies. (That really helps the thinking process – trust me) And dreamed of it.

And my conclusion? I’ve taken a wrong turn. My latest chapter doesn’t fit in with the other five. It’s adult in nature, it’s explaining, it’s (gasp again) backstory.

So my options are to weave in the backstory so the new chapter fits, or skip the new chapter and go back to the way things were before. One will make it a stronger book with a stronger plot, the other will be more fun.

Sigh.

Anyone out there have any cookies?

Writing MG

I’m learning to write MG. It might seem fairly simple, but by golly it’s not.

Kids don’t know who Michael Jordan is, so there goes my funny comment about jumping high.

They don’t remember Arnold Schwarzenegger from before his governor days.

They don’t remember Crocodile Dundee and his “Now that’s a knife” comment.

All my great lines…sigh. Gone

So now *I* have to do all the work. Who’s a popular basketball player these days? Who’s a hero? I’ve read Diary of a Wimpy Kid and watched Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It’s not hard work, by any means, but now that I’m a bit “older” than MG myself, I have to work to find out what’s “in” these days.

Kirk Hinrich. Originally from Sioux City, Iowa. Used to play for the Bulls. All around nice guy and a good hero figure.

There. That wasn’t so hard now was it?

Squee It’s Me!

Greetings!

I’m cc spencer. Budding middle grade writer. I am currently about half way through my first attempt at an MG book, about a young boy, some mysterious tools and his grandpa. So far, it’s been a blast. =)

I’ll be posting snippets of the story here and there as well as anything else that pops into my head.

And on that scary note, I’m off and writing!
